About Punjab Technical University

The Punjab Technical University started its operations on 16th of January 1997 by an enactment of a State Legislature Act which aimed in promoting Pharmaceutical, Technical and Management education at Degree level and beyond in the state of Punjab. The Punjab Technical University has been granted with the authority to form centre of excellence in the field of emerging technologies and promote research, development and training in different areas in the state. The key focus of the University has been in developing awareness among the masses and train people for professional skill related technologies.

The University is taking keen initiatives to provide the country and the state with skilled workforce in the sector of technology. With the help of different courses being designed in different areas of studies in options of distance learning and regular courses, the University is keeping up its goal. The Punjab Technical University is now having 288 colleges and 1005 centers for distance learning programs under its gamut of administration. Around all the centers and colleges the University is offering courses of Management, Pharmacy, Catering Technology, B.Sc MLT, Hotel Management, Engineering and IT disciplines.

The Punjab Technical University has undertaken latest technology trends in providing education to the students and has also providing assistance to the faculties and student as well to have interactions with leaders in the field of technology present in our country. PTU is provided with facilities like e-Governance. The best way to improve quality of teaching is been through routes of research inputs by the faculties. The University has set up nine regional centers at various places of Punjab aiming at qualification improvement for faculties by introducing M.Tech courses and enabling research inputs through these centers. The University also plays a bridging role between the industry and the students by conducting job placements.

Also the industry is being helped by the R&D initiatives of the university through various programs under CII, Confederation of Indian Industry. The distance learning system has provided new dimensions in spreading the wings of education in a vast country like India. Moreover the concept of Open University is great one especially providing quality education to the remote and rural areas thus it is igniting life and helping to emerge new skills. The Punjab Technical University has also come up with graduate, diploma and post graduate programs in IT, Paramedical & Applied Tech, Fashion Technology, Beauty Technology, Media Tech, Hotel and Tourism Management through 300 Centers of Learning throughout Punjab and the country only to develop the expert young workforce in these emerging fields.

The mission of the University is to provide excellent educational opportunity to the students of Punjab and to the affiliated Centers for Learning as Centers of Excellence. The mode of distance learning is taking some progressive moves to improve and modernize the teaching techniques being practiced by the University at present. An Interim Council has been established for the above purpose, which formulates guidelines in order to modernize and improve the distance learning program of the University.
